Originally formed in the 1880s, the Edgewood Fire Department operates out of a single station located in the Edgewood Borough Building. We proudly provide firefighting, vehicle rescue, search and rescue, and hazardous materials services to the 3,800 residents of the borough of Edgewood.
We are primarly staffed by volunteers, but we also have a paid dispatcher/driver between 8 a.m. and midnight during weekdays. In the event of a call, our driver will respond with the appropriate truck and equipment. Volunteers will either respond to the station to ride the appropriate truck, or to the location of the call – in order to assure the best possible response and staffing for our residents.
Although our primary response area is mostly residential, we have a number of businesses, most notably the Edgewood Town Centre. We also serve the portion of I-376 between the Squirrel Hill Tunnels and the Forest Hills/Wilkinsburg exit with the assistance of Wilkinsburg and the City of Pittsburgh. The PAT East Busway runs through our borough, as well as a main line of the Norfolk Southern Railroad.
