Originally formed in the 1880's, the Edgewood Fire Department
operates out of a single station located in the Edgewood Borough
Building. We proudly provide firefighting, vehicle rescue, search &
rescue, and hazardous materials services to the 3,800 residents of the
borough of Edgewood.
We are primarly staffed by volunteers, but we also have a paid
dispatcher/driver between 8am and midnight during weekdays. In the event
of a call, our driver will respond with the appropriate truck and
equipment. Volunteers will either respond to the station to ride the
appropriate truck, or to the location of the call--in order to assure
the best possible response and staffing for our residents.
Although our primary response area is mostly residential, we have a
number of businesses, most notably the Edgewood Town Centre. We also
serve the portion of I-376 between the Squirrel Hill Tunnels and the
Forest Hills/Wilkinsburg exit with the assistance of Wilkinsburg and the City of Pittsburgh. The PAT East Busway runs through
our borough, as well as a main line of the Norfolk Southern Railroad.
