Our Goal
The EVFD will respond rapidly to emergencies including fire suppression and prevention, vehicle rescue, critical medical incidents, search and rescue, and hazardous materials containment.
Our Services
EVFD meets the needs of our community by providng emergency services to the 3,800 residents in the borough of Edgewood and supports neighboring communites. EVFD is staffed by 21 volunteers 24 hours a day and one paid emergency service employee between 8 a.m. and 12 a.m on weekdays. This borough staff member only supports EVFD as a driver. In the event of an emergency call during the above hours, the emergency service employee will respond with the appropriate truck and equipment. In order to assure the best possible response and for our residents, volunteers respond to the station and ride the appropriate truck or respond to the location of the call. EVFD’s primary response area is mostly residential; however, EVFD responds to emergencies at businesses in Edgewood Town Centre and Regent Square, as well as, the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf and Edgewood Primary School. In addition, EVFD is responsible for a portion of I-376 between the Squirrel Hill Tunnels and the Forest Hills/Wilkinsburg exit with the assistance of the City of Pittsburgh. The Port Authority east bus way runs through Edgewood, as well as, a main line of the Norfolk Southern Railroad.
